Pioneering
The Greenbrier Valley Pasture Network began years ago in the living room of the late Betty Burford surrounding her passion for healthy West Virginia foods and farmers. Betty and founding member Martha Holdridge began the tradition that continues today
of bringing like-minded folks together to discuss, learn, and share effective methods of pasture management and pastured-raised meat production.

Community Minded
Today, GVPN has a farmer membership of pasture-based farms in the Greenbrier River Watershed. GVPN is an informal association, membership is due annually, and the officers are elected annually. Member farms produce organic dairy herds, beef cattle, lamb, goat, poultry, turkey, hogs, and rabbits. GVPN provides a forum for discussion, education and networking between members and community. Many of our member farms provide pasture-raised meat products and organic dairy to households, farm markets, restaurants, retail, within WV and this region of Appalachia. Some farms sell livestock to pasture based finishing farms.
GVPN welcomes farms of all sizes, beginning and/or junior members and anyone interested in pasture management, conservation and pasture-based farming! Most meetings are educational in format, bringing in outside presenters and/or creating space to hear and learn what member farms are doing throughout the year. Newcomers and visitors are always welcome! GVPN strives to broaden the membership’s understanding of the vast spectrum of challenge and success with finished pasture-based systems, marketing, business development and to strengthen our local network. GVPN is committed to providing education, supporting managed pasture-based farms, and growing healthy food systems in West Virginia. |
